Comprehension Monitoring -- Literacy A-Z

Comprehension Monitoring

Comprehension monitoring is the ability to recognize while reading that the text is either making sense or not making sense. As readers read, they pause periodically to assess their understanding and when meaning is not achieved, they employ fix up strategies (rereading, questioning, adjusting the pace, and reading ahead a bit) to help regain lost ground and clear up confusion.
