Context Clues

Context clues are the words surrounding an unknown word. When a reader comes to an unfamiliar word, one way to attack the problem is by backing up, rereading the words that come before the word causing difficulty and then continuing on to see what comes afterward. Very often, the context provides information the reader needs to be able to decipher the word in question.
