Model (Mini Lesson) -- Literacy A-Z

Model (Mini Lesson)

Modeling is the point during the mini lesson when the teacher provides a concrete example of the teaching point. It is the SHOW component of the gradual release of responsibility model when teachers demonstrate what the teaching point looks like in their own reading or writing.

Example: (Teacher says…) When I read Tough Boris by Mem Fox, I visualize, or get a picture in my head. When it says, “He was tough, all pirates are tough,” I see a big burly guy. He has a scar on his cheek and he has big muscles. He says things like, “Get outta my way!” And when he says that, everybody moves really, really quickly!
