Organization -- Literacy A-Z

Organization

Organization is the thread that leads readers to understanding the central idea or message conveyed by a piece of writing. When a piece is well-organized, the reader receives information in the doses that the writer intended and is able to move seamlessly from one idea to the next. A well-organized piece gives readers a clear sense of when the text has begun, when they are receiving the bulk of the information, and when the text has concluded.

Texts can be organized in any number of ways including but not limited to the following:
  • Compare-contrast
  • Point-by-point analysis
  • Central theme development
  • Chronological sequence
  • Point of view
  • Problem/solution
