Reading Like a Writer

Reading like a writer is a term used to describe what readers do to learn about the techniques authors use to engage readers. It is the process of paying close attention to the six traits that define writing:
When children are taught to read like writers, they learn to use the books available in the classroom as mentor texts thereby multiplying the number of writing teachers children have access to for writing support during writing workshop
