Self Correction -- Literacy A-Z

Self Correction

During a running record, readers will sometimes read a word that does not match what an examiner expects to hear. When the reader hears her own miscue and goes back to correct it, this is called a self-correction and recorded on the running record.

Self-Corrections provide insight about how children process meaning as they read. Keeping track of self-corrections enable teachers to quantify the extent to which students are self-monitoring as they read.
