Predicting

Predicting is an important comprehension strategy that requires students to infer what will come next based on the information and events in the text. Predicting requires that students use what they already know to formulate ideas that bring them deeper into the text. As students read, confirming and refining predictions helps them to monitor their understanding and remain motivated to read the text in its entirety.
