Book Choice

An important tenet of independent reading within a reading workshop model is book choice. Allowing students to self-select their own reading material helps to generate excitement and increase motivation about reading. In order to optimize the benefits of independent reading (improved fluency, increased vocabulary, and expanded background knowledge), it is important to train students to make just right choices when self-selecting books.
