Book Room
Comprehensive reading and writing instruction require lots of resources. One way to manage the financial and spatial demands of balanced literacy is by creating school book rooms. School book rooms provide a centralized location for storing resources that support guided reading, shared reading, reader’s theater, read aloud, literature circles, and writing instruction. School book rooms house:
- Multiple copies of leveled books for guided reading (both fiction and non-fiction)
- Big books
- Reader’s Theater Collections and Materials
- Multiple copies of titles appropriate for literature circles
- Read alouds organized to support explicit skill and strategy instruction in both reading and writing
- Professional resources for teachers
