A writing celebration is the fanfare around the completion of a piece of writing. 

 

Writing celebrations are sometimes small and intimate. Teachers will have students gather in small groups and read aloud what they have written. Children might circulate quietly from desk to desk reading what their peers have written and respond by writing their thoughts on a comment page. Teachers might arrange for students to visit other classrooms in the building to read aloud their work to other students. Celebrating can be as simple as mailing a letter or placing their books in the class or school library.

 

Sometimes celebrations are big and elaborate. At the culmination of a unit, teachers might invite parents to an author’s tea or poetry reading. They might arrange for students to “perform” their piece on the stage of the auditorium and invite students from other classes to come and listen.
