Feedback -- Literacy A-Z

Feedback

Feedback is when a teacher provides information about a student’s actions or thinking for the purpose of changing or improving a learning process. Feedback has been shown to be one of the most significant activities a teacher can engage in to improve student achievement.  When providing students feedback about the reading and writing processes, teachers should:
  • Explain where errors were made
  • Explain why errors were errors
  • Provide explanations as immediately as possible
When instructive and timely, feedback plays a critical role in scaffolding and reinforcing student learning that leads to greater proficiency in reading and writing.
