High Frequency Words

High frequency words are the words that appear most often in printed material. In order to develop automaticity, it is important that children learn to recognize high frequency words quickly and easily. Often used interchangeably with the term sight word, high frequency words differ only in that they include both words that follow predictable grapheme-phoneme word patterns as well as words that are not easily decoded.
