Independent Reading Level -- Literacy A-Z

Independent Reading Level

A child’s independent reading level refers to what a child is able to decode, analyze, and evaluate without the support of the teacher.

In order for a text to be deemed “independent” for a child, a child reading between levels A-K must be able to read it with 95% or greater accuracy and satisfactory comprehension. For a child reading at levels L-Z, in order for a text to be considered at the “independent” level, it needs to be read with 98% accuracy or better with satisfactory comprehension.
