Reading Workshop

Reading workshop is a set of teaching structures that provide the framework for comprehensive reading instruction. Reading workshop classrooms help students develop the skills they need to make reading an integral and meaningful aspect of their everyday lives by engaging them in all aspects of what readers do from choosing books to reflecting on what they read.

Reading workshop teachers utilize a wide array of teaching practices to deliver instruction including:
By basing instruction on what readers do naturally after a good read (share and connect), reading workshop provides teachers the structure they need to deliver authentic, highly differentiated instruction that accommodates the learning needs of all students. Reading workshop gives children the opportunity to bring their reading lives into the classroom for the purpose of stretching themselves in the company of others which fosters a positive learning climate as well as a love of reading in the classroom.
